Torque Capacity

At SOUTHERN HOTROD, we use Torque rather than Horsepower to rate our transmissions. This is because transmission parts fail due to dynamic and twisting forces in which they carry. Horsepower is a calculated number based off of Torque and RPM and does not reflect a true force which acts upon the transmission geartrain.

Some very important things to keep in mind when considering which transmission is best for your application are:

  • Engine and Transmission calibration
  • Torque Converter
  • Vehicle weight
  • Vehicle use
  • Transmission Heat management
  • Tire size
  • Axle ratio
